This ballet production of The Little Mermaid, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale with music by Tuomas Kantelinen, was presented by the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki in 2015.
Takis served as Performance Designer for set design, working alongside costume designer Erika Turunen, video designer Jouka Valkama, and lighting designer Kalle Ropponen. Under the musical direction of conductor Robert Reimer, the design created an enchanting underwater world that brought Andersen’s beloved story to life through ballet. The scenic elements evoked both the mysterious ocean depths and the human world above, providing a magical backdrop for the choreography.
The Finnish National Ballet is one of Europe’s leading ballet companies, known for its ambitious story ballets and technical prowess. This production showcased takis’s ability to design for dance, where scenery must enhance rather than dominate the movement, creating atmospheric environments that serve the choreographer’s vision.
