“The play’s thought-provoking, highly functional and eye-caressingly stylish set and costume design is by a Greek designer who belongs among the international stars of this art form and who goes by the name takis” — Kielipuolen päiväkirja
“The set is pared down, yet at the same time ingenious. The building’s “timber frame” transforms into many things during the play and turns in step with the events. In a dark moment its turning deepens the gloom, and in brighter moods it opens up” — Kulttuuritoimitus
“Takis has succeeded with the sets; they have ideas and power” — Lempäälän-Vesilahden Sanomat
“The stage picture is dominated by a frame-like structure that smoothly transforms into different spaces. The successful set and costume design was by takis, who works under that artist name” — Kirsin Book Club
This theatrical production of Jane Eyre, adapted from Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel, was presented at Tampere Theatre in Finland in Autumn 2021.
takis served as Performance Designer, creating costume design and set design for this dramatic adaptation of the beloved Gothic romance. Working with director Jussi Nikkilä and choreographer Ingrid André, the design evoked the atmospheric world of 19th-century England, from the harsh Lowood School to the mysterious halls of Thornfield Hall. Lighting design by Raimo Salmi enhanced the production’s Gothic atmosphere.
The production featured a strong ensemble cast including Marketta Tikkanen as Jane Eyre and Esa Latva-Äijö as Rochester. Tampere Theatre is one of Finland’s most important regional theatres, known for ambitious literary adaptations. This production demonstrated takis’s versatility in theatrical design beyond opera and musical theatre. View the complete gallery of production images above.
