His Teeth | Only Connect Theatre, King’s Cross, London, October 13 – November 12, 2011
Ben Musgrave’s debut play inspired by the true stories of Ralph Ojotu, directed by Maggie Norris for Only Connect—a creative arts charity working with prisoners, ex-offenders, and at-risk youth. The play follows Eric Adegeye, who runs smuggling missions in Lagos before his restlessness drives him to England, where he becomes ensnared in a depraved world of forced labour and dangerous loyalties.
takis’ design created the environments of both Lagos and London, contrasting the open chaos of West African street life with the claustrophobic confinement of modern slavery. The production utilized video design by Mic Pool to enhance the storytelling, with lighting by Joshua Carr emphasizing the dark transformation of Eric’s journey from freedom to bondage.
Only Connect’s work uses theatre to transform lives, providing creative opportunities and practical support for people caught in cycles of crime and incarceration. His Teeth exemplified this mission—telling a story of exploitation and survival that reflected the experiences of many in their community, performed in their intimate King’s Cross venue.
