The World of Abdulhussain | JACC National Theatre, Kuwait, May 1-11, 2024
Grand retrospective celebrating Abdulhussain Abdulredha, Kuwait’s most iconic theatrical performer. Performed at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre National Theatre, the production involved over 80 artists in a seamless collaboration encompassing singing, musical performances, and theatrical acts. The show explored Abdulredha’s legendary career as actor, producer, director, writer, composer, and singer—a versatile artistic entity who defined Kuwaiti popular theatre.
takis designed the production’s staging, integrating recorded archival material with live performance using modern technological techniques. The design incorporated video content for rear projection, gauzes, and LED screens (produced by FRAY), transporting audiences into Abdulredha’s artistic world. The production featured opening and closing musical credits from his TV series, operettas of various genres, sketches, and songs spanning his extensive body of work—all centered on his close bond with music.
The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre, opened in 2016, serves as Kuwait’s premier performing arts venue. This production demonstrated how theatrical design can honor cultural legacy while employing contemporary technology to bring archival material to life for new generations.
